Contesting

Contesting
So you want to quest and earn some pg and bp well look no farther to figure out the pros and cons to training. For the beginners I would suggest doing a couple of the newbie and easy quests. They are generally done in an hour or two and will give you some quick easy pg at little cost. Now you can either stop there or move up to the medium and hard quests. These will take longer but the payout is more and will include bp. For these quests it best to have some pg stored up because vetting, entering contests, and mooding will eat it all up while you are waiting for a quest to finish. There is nothing worse then needing to vet and not having the pg to do so. For the more advanced quester there are the extremely hard and impossible quests….yes the payout is really good but it will take a long time to get there. An average of 6 hours of contesting times 7 days a week and it will take about 3 to 4 weeks for an impossible to get done, that is with good levelling happening the entire time. It will be about 500k in vetting, so if you want to do the impossible then you better have a lot of pg stored up before starting.

Shop around for a contest to enter, don’t just pick the first one you see. To gain the most exp the contest needs to be as full as possible, or if not full then over half way full. Also the others entered in the contest should be around the same level as yours, preferable no more than a 300 level difference between them and yours. As to which ones to enter, there are free contests and ones that are under 7pg, they are cheap try to get in those. Vetting will eat up so much of your pg that the less you spend to enter the better. Also go for the marathons. Pretty much everyone is doing them now but there are the odd ones out there that are not. Marathon contests give you the most bang for your pg.

do I contest?
For the first timers or those that are still not sure about questing its best to choose another pony other than your favourite. Yes you may love to have your favourite at a high level but having them die it not a good idea. See the section on Resurrection Scrolls for more detail. Its best to go to the pony market and get a cheap baby(no more than 500pg) and use them for your questing until you are comfortable with it. Why the baby? Because they level better, yes its true. The younger the baby the better. A low level adult will not do well in a contest. You will need to buy them equipment and mood like crazy and even then it will be an uphill struggle until they are over level 100. Once they are over level 100 things will get a bit easier so long as they ones they contesting with are in that range too. As to the babies, they don’t need to be ones that you are going to keep or use for forever. They are to help you get use to contesting and in the habit of vetting after each contest.

Mooding
To mood or not to mood, that is the question. Mooding does help your pony place higher in a quest that is true. Does the pony always have to be on 10, no. If you don’t have the time to mood the there is no harm. So long as the pony does not go below 5 for mood then you are still ok. Lower mood means that the pony will not place as high in a conterst and will not gain as much exp is all it boils down to. Things to help mood is making sure that they are in a stable that is meant for them. The water breeds prefer a water stable, if they are not in one then they are upset, it’s as simple as that. The stable that you have will tell you what it types it is made more. And there are the upgrade features, like the tiny cave for fire and the tiny pool for water. There are lots of snacks to feed them to help with mooding, best are the cookies and mixed berries but others are fine too. Levelling your pony will also give them a mood increase of one mood per level deployed on the pony.

Equiptment and Items

Equiptment
It looks pretty and it helps a little bit. Is it vital that you have it, no. If you choose the right stuff then it will make the pony pretty, just like a good tattoo but its not something that you need to spend your pg on. If you have a low level adult(under level 100) then the equipment will give them a little bit of a boost but it costs a lot to buy. Buying the equipment that does not improve a stat is not worth it unless you are making your pony pretty and don’t care that it doesn’t help with them contesting.

Resurrection Scrolls
Yes they are nice in case you do accidentally kill your favourite pony and want to bring them back, but they will take 10% of the exp that you have on your pony for it to be used. That means your pony will be in the hole for a bit while it makes it way back up and is levelling again. Their mood is also low during this time, until they are gaining again.

Arenas
Why don’t I just buy my own arena? That will only be good if you can fill it yourself. For a more advanced quester it’s a toss up if you want your own arena or not. They are handy in that you know that if you can’t make it into another contest then you have your own that you can make up(if you have one already made that you can just copy). For the beginner, its just better for you to enter someone else’s contests. That will help to fill it, gain you more exp and will cost you less in the long run. You can find out what contests are going on now by clicking on the “Next contest” button. Or if you want one for later then you can click on search, click on contest, then click on the search button on that page. This will list all the contests that up set up and running from now until the end(many months down the road).
